The paintings of Gerry de Banzie (b. 2000, Maidstone) are characterised by their flowing, ethereal quality. Primarily working with oils diluted with white spirit, and always with his stretched canvases lying on the floor, Gerry’s layered application of paint allows for the merging and diffusion of colour somewhat beyond his control. The resulting works demonstrate a sublime and perhaps providential depth, suggesting familiar forms while deliberately eluding definitive interpretation.

Gerry graduated with a BA in Fine Art (Painting) from Camberwell College of Arts in 2023. His current studio practice at Crème Fraîche represents an exciting period of expansion, as he explores increasingly larger canvases in anticipation of a major duo presentation with fellow Crème Fraîcher John Sant in Soho in July 2025. His salon catalogue (January 2024) can be viewed here, that of his watercolour paintings on paper can be viewed here, and his Crème Fraîche profile can be viewed here.

Gerry is delighted to have been selected to show this body of work at Justice: spanning the past thirty months, these seven pieces represent the development of his practice and reflect those elements of his practice which remain constant.
